The manufacturer does not recommend sealing, staining, or
treating the wooden bin. Good aeration of the bins allows them
to quickly and efficiently process many kinds of compost, that other bins can't accept
at all. For example orange peels, bread, wet dough, lemons, onions
etc. Please lightly spray the content when adding more food. Worms like this "shower" a lot!
If you keep the bin full it doesn't dry out too fast. As a water retaining
bedding (we) recommend ready compost with shredded cardboard and old
leaves: 20% compost, 40% cardboard, 40%leaves by volume.
